On March 10, the students involved in TSA (Technology Student Association) traveled to Athens, Georgia to participate in the state competition. There was a wide variety of competitions to choose from. Trion High TSA students competed in the following: RC Transportation, Architectural Model, Game Design, Engineering Design, Flight Endurance, SciVis, Problem Solving, CO2 Dragster Design, and Structural Engineering. Matthew Gibbs and Joe Cochran dominated the RC Transportation event and placed first in state. Joe Cochran is quoted as saying "We worked very hard on our robot. We're glad we won state and that our hard work paid off." CeAirra Whitehead placed in the top ten for the Architectural Model competition. She says that "It was a very inspirational experience. I wish I could compete again." Click here for video.

Jada Layne Selby was crowned Miss Trion 2011 and Murphy Danielle Phibbs was crowned Junior MIss Trion last Saturday night at the annual pageant sponsored by our high school band. Jada is a sophomore at Trion High and enjoys basketball, singing, participating in church actiivities with her youth group, and scrapbooking. "I was so surprised and happy when they called my number out. I had to ask myself, was that really me? It is really thrilling to represent THS as Miss Trion." First runner up was Brooke Willbanks; second, Rachel Allison; third Toni Helms and fourth Jenna Barnes. Danielle is a sophomore and enjoys aerobics, weight training, modeling, and spending time with her youth group at church, friends, family and boyfriend. She also received an opportunity to advance in her modeling career by attending classes in Tennessee at a high class modeling agency. Junior Miss first runner up was Callie Thomas; 2nd runner up Autie Abernathy; and 3rd runner up Kaitlyn Hammit.

Both Varsity and JV baseball teams have gone undefeated this season. "We are looking forward to a great season and are extremely excited in the direction the program is headed," says head coach Jason Lanham. There is a lot of talent on the team which has stemmed from years of work beginning at at early age.

The Varsity and JV soccer teams, in spite of one region game, have been victorious this season. Coach Rachel Edge comments, "Our girls have been aggressive on the field and are only getting better each day. We have some work to do before our next region game so we will be up for the challenge." Seniors this year are Hannah Payton, Gabby Dempsey, Toni Helms, Courtney Stowe, and Brittney Hampton. Join the team on Tues. March 15 at home as they face Coosa. |
